None of us may ever live to see a truly different future where arcology is used for human living, but you can bring a bit of futuristic flair to your home with these hand-made aquariums that look like something from a sci-fi TV show.

Aquariums are pretty cool in general, expecially the salt-water type. The myriad of colors from the corals, brightly patterned fish, and shimmering water are relaxing and mesmerizing.

However, a design studio called Octopus Studios thinks that the basic rectangular design of nearly every aquarium on the planet can be improved. What they came-up with is a very unique, futuristic looking design of globes connected by smaller tubes. There have been many designs for human living based upon the concept of arcologies, where there are various ecosystems combined to makes a larger framework of high-density living space.

These aquariums utilize some of those principles to create various sub-chambers for your fish, in which you can create different environments. The fish can swim from chamber to chamber, although I'd guess you could place barriers between the nodes if you wished to keep certain species separated for any reason.

The Silverfish aquariums aren't cheap -- they are hand-made and you need to place a deposit before they will begin working on your custom design. However, there isn't much in the world of high-end aquariums that is cheap, so maybe it's worth the premium to have a bit of sci-fi in your fishtank.

Watch Fido's movements through the forest or just cheat at hide-and-seek with this fancy tracking GPS tool.

While this Garmin Astro 220 was primarily designed for tracking expensive hunting dogs as they chase various soon-to-be-tasty treats through the forest, it's easy to think of other uses for it.

The Astro 220 uses a handheld GPS unit, which features the usual stuff like MicroSD slot for maps, color screen, etc., but it's also paired with a portable transmitter sends the dog's location back to the handheld as often as every 5 seconds. This lets you see where Fido is at as well as track his path through the forest so you can see the areas which have been covered already.

With a little imagination, you can find other uses such as letting your regular dog run free (where legal) without worrying about them getting lost. Paranoid parents may also put the transmitter in a child's bag to watch them walking to school. Or perhaps you just want to play spy like Jack Bauer on 24 and follow a car with the transmitter on it.

Nope, it's not an April Fool's day joke - check the date on the source article. Apparently, Eli Lilly aims to re-target their Prozac product for your dog to help it "deal" with being separated from you, his precious owner.

I guess that it was bound to happen. Psychologists would eventually run out of "problems" in humans and have to begin looking elsewhere to find diseases, disorders, and other maladies. Now, it's Fido's turn to get psychoanalyzed and prescribed.

The experts claim that "separation anxiety" affects 10-20 percent of dogs and causes them to chew on furniture, whiz on the carpet, and do other dog-type things while you're gone. Yep, being a dog is now a disorder which demands a prescription drug solution.

Enter the Prozac type product for your dogs. Yeah, it's not technically a "gizmo" but it's a new product (or soon will be) so keep an eye out for this at your vet's office. It's never too soon to dope your doggie!
